“Fighting Climate Change Requires a Bold Shift to a Circular Economy” – Emine Erdoğan

Emine Erdoğan, the wife of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, attended the event “Advancing the Circular Economy: Pakistan-Türkiye Partnership for Sustainability” in Islamabad, Pakistan. Hosted by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the event highlighted the urgent need for sustainable solutions in the fight against climate change.

In her speech, Emine Erdoğan emphasized the global urgency of the climate crisis, stating, "The extreme weather events we witness today—floods, droughts, and unpredictable climate patterns—are the consequences of our unsustainable relationship with nature. If we want to leave a livable world for future generations, we must rethink our consumption habits and adopt a nature-friendly way of life."

The Zero Waste Movement & Circular Economy

Emine Erdoğan underlined the success of Türkiye's Zero Waste Movement, stressing its potential to drive global environmental policies. She highlighted that waste management is not just an environmental necessity but also an economic opportunity. "By embracing the circular economy model, we can minimize environmental damage while ensuring the efficient use of resources. Countries must strengthen recycling and waste management policies to support sustainable development," she said.

Call for Stronger Türkiye-Pakistan Cooperation

Underlining the importance of international cooperation in tackling climate change, Emine Erdoğan called for deeper collaboration between Türkiye and Pakistan. "We must implement environmental policies not in isolation, but through collective wisdom and cooperation. Only then can we leave behind a sustainable world for future generations," she stated.

At the conclusion of the event, it was announced that both countries would take further steps to enhance cooperation on environmental initiatives and promote the adoption of circular economy principles.
